WHO IS NOT AN IDEAL CANDIDATE?
CONDITIONS THAT MAY AFFECT THE OUTCOME
We will not refuse you based off of these parameters, however we do give a disclaimer.
Those who sweat and have oily skin and active lifestyles - those with oily skin and enlarged pores tend to fade faster, lines may susceptible to blurring compared to those with normal/dry skin.
Oily skin
Recently had botox / injectables / cosmetic procedure / surgery - please scroll down to Preparations for more info if this applies to you.
Scar tissue
Many people have small scars hidden within their eyebrows without their knowledge. These small patches of discolored or pale skin are usually caused by past accidents, chicken pox or acne and do not absorb the pigments well. Therefore these areas will fade quicker than the rest. Please scroll down to scar tissue for more information.
Acne - prone skin
Little to no eyebrow hair
Alopecia - While our technician is extremely skilled because of almost 20 years as a professional MUA with extremely high end clientele in South Korea and can create the life-like illusion of hair, microblading is ideal for those with at least some eyebrow hair as it can help blend and give the illusion of real hair.
Those taking lots of medication - blood thinning medication / vitamins.
You must disclose any medical information before your procedure. We have the right to deny any individual based off their medical history if we feel as though your results will be less than desirable.
Individuals who have oily skin, no or close to no hairs, large pores, previous scars, hot body temperature, and live a constantly active lifestyle outdoors may experience more bleeding than others. This causes faster fading and slight blurring of the lines. Since this depends highly on the individual’s skin type and lifestyle it cannot be prevented.
Although results may not be optimal they are better than no eyebrows, but may not be as satisfactory of a result compared to an ideal client. Most studios will reject these candidates, but with a skilled enough technician, we can still work with many of these parameters.
Our goal is to make sure you are happy with your brows! If we feel as though we will be unable to achieve your goals, we will disclose this information to you and recommend that you do not get microblading.
What is MICROBLADING?
Microblading is currently the hottest trending form of semi-permanent tattoo where the licensed artist uses a single use disposable needle to tattoo each individual stroke by hand. The carefully drawn series of fine lines simulate hyper-realistic eyebrow hairs.
Why does microblading fade faster compared to older permanent cosmetic tattoo?
Microblading has different retention because of the different inks used then vs. now. Microblading takes place on the outer most layer of your skin which gives our technician the ability to create more delicate, varied, lines that are lighter in appearance compared to the bulky, heavy, blown out lines of older permanent cosmetic tattoos, which is even deeper in the skin. These results take years to fade, if at all, sometimes taking well over a decade, leaving undesirable bluish-grayish-green eyebrows.
micrOblading vs microblading + embroidery combo
micROBLADING
Microblading is a series of fine, hair-like strokes that mimic and give the illusion of real hair.
Microblading + Embroidery Combo
Microblading + Embroidery combo has a layer of of light shading underneath the fine, hair-like strokes. Most people opt for this option if they have naturally sparse eyebrow hair, have a pre-existing cosmetic tattoo, or if they want a more definitive shape. Most of our clients choose this option and most of our photos in our gallery use this technique.
You do not need to decide which service you would like until after your consultation.
Our artist will also let you know which service she recommends for you!

OUR SPECIALTY
Specializing in custom, natural eyebrows, you will be able to discuss your goals with our technician during your consultation. Everyone has a different idea of what the “perfect” pair of brows are.
Not only do we keep up with current trends, we excel in customizing eyebrows based on your facial anatomy and your goals! The beauty of microblading is that it will eventually fade away, making it easy to adjust your shape and color as your facial structure, desires, and trends change over time!
We make sure to consult with our clients to ensure satisfactory results before proceeding with the cosmetic tattoo.
WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM MICROBLADING?
Eyebrows are a crucial part of defining one’s face and play a large role in one’s facial expressions. Finding the perfect eyebrow shape, color, and style can often be quite difficult and applying eyebrow makeup everyday can be a very tedious and time consuming task. However, more and more people are now turning to semi-permanent makeup to save valuable time while always having flawless brows.
Here at Hera Permanent Makeup we take the time to study your face shape, skin tone, and hair color, in order to create the perfect set of eyebrows tailored to your own unique needs.
APPOINTMENT PROCESS
The entire process takes around 1.5 - 2 hours. There is no down time. We will apply A&D ointment and then give you aftercare instructions + ointment. Please follow the instructions carefully so that your eyebrows can heal beautifully and avoid infection!
Our process is unique to our studio here at Hera Permanent Makeup! Every studio is different! Even if you have gone to other studios, we ask that you follow our policy and process as we have years of experience. This is the most efficient and effective way for us to create your most desirable outcome!
Paperwork
Application of topical anesthetic
You draw your eyebrows so we can gauge your perception.
Don’t be afraid! Everyone has their own needs. Your version of “thick” or “arched” is different from someone else’s. Our technician will redraw in your eyebrows for you with her design afterwards anyways!
Design consultation
We specialize in customized natural brows. Each person has a specially customized shape.
We do not do stereotypical, trendy brows unless that is what you want!
Based off your needs and desires/goals, the technician will custom design eyebrows for you.
Upon approval, we will discuss the color (custom colors that we mix) and discuss which eyebrow service option is better suited for you.
We design your eyebrows including their strokes during your consultation so your finished product will look almost identical to what you see! We will not start until you approve your eyebrows.
Begin microblading upon agreement 30 - 45 minutes.
Please be considerate and respectful of our time and profession as it is valuable.
We have the right to refuse anyone service for being more than 10 minutes late without notice, no-shows, and multiple cancellations. Please be considerate of our time and profession.
Is it painful?
Our microblading procedure is virtually painless! Many of our clients comment on how easy and painless the entire procedure is, especially those who have had microblading done before at other studios.
As mentioned in our General FAQ, it depends on the client, but most of our clients experience little to no pain as we apply a gentle but effective topical anesthetic. Because it is a cosmetic tattoo, some individuals will experience some pain or discomfort, but we take many precautions in order to ensure the comfort of our clients!
Will it damage my EYEBROW HAIR?
Not at all! Semi-permanent makeup is placed on the outer most layer of your skin. Regular tattoos penetrate your epidermis, which is beneath the outer most layer of your skin. Your hair follicle is even deeper in the dermis and is not affected by these procedures.
How will I look after my procedure?
Your eyebrows may look a little darker or swollen for the first day or two depending on the person, but most clients are able to go back to their daily activities right after the procedure.
Your new color will look darker and more defined for the first 7-10 days.
It will get lighter at the end of the week as your eyebrows heal and scabs (if any) fall off.
In 4-7 days they start to shrink depending on the person and their skin type.
Although the healing process takes 7-10 days, we recommend giving it a full month for you to fully heal and get settled in.
PREVIOUS TATTOO + COVER UP
I have a previous tattoo / would like to cover up. What are my options?
We specialize in fixing less than desirable results from previous work! It is possible to get microblading/semi-permanent makeup over preexisting tattoos. However, the result can depend on the current state and thus requires a more in depth consultation with our technician.
As it is more difficult to match someone else’s previous work or covering up, you would be treated as if you were a first time client with us, including our rates.
Good candidates
We are very selective with whom we pick for those with previous tattoos. If you have lower expectations and wish to improve the area, we can fix it for you. If you’re expecting a complete difference then we will be unable to accept you. Although we can make it better than how It currently may be, we cannot completely transform them as if they were a blank canvas.
If it’s dark, laser removal or other removal service, wait 1 month after your last session. It is the client’s responsibility to go to do their research and go to a place that specializes in cosmetic tattoo ink removal. We unfortunately do not have any recommendations for this service.
If it is medium faded or semi dark, and you don’t like how red or blue it is, we can offer a neutralizing service. We can make it better depending on the client and their condition, but we can not change/make the shape completely disappear. We can only treat the affected area. Then, we will go back on top with microblading + embroidery combination tattoo for your new shape. The end result will be darker than what you currently have.
Neutralizing service we cannot change the shape, but we can soften your current color depending on whether your current tattoo is faded reddish or bluish.
Sectional Tattoo Covering service we use a skin tone ink to cover very small areas to redefine your shape instead of covering what you have - which can only be thicker than what you came in with to cover everything. This helps clients with asymmetrical preexisting work, or clients that are trying to obtain a new shape. The negative side is that it may not exactly match your skin tone.
Both of these services can only be done at the time of your initial appointment in one sitting WITH microblading + embroidery combo. We do not offer these services as a stand alone service. There is no optional, complimentary touch up for these services.
If it is light/faded we can cover it up as long as we use a darker color. The color will look darker because we have to cover up what’s beneath, must use combination technique
We cannot stress how important it is to choose your technician wisely. We know how tempting discounts and deals can be… Remember, you are not paying for the service, you are paying for the years of experience of the technician who is giving you the service!
Can microblading hide/cover my
scars? WILL IT GIVE ME SCARS?
Scar tissue
Almost everyone has scar tissue. Most people don’t even notice it, especially if you’ve never had microblading done before. When you have natural eyebrow hair, as it is much lighter than how your eyebrows look when they are defined with microblading. Although it looks great on the first day, scar tissue can suddenly seem to become more noticeable as “bald spots” and “sparse areas” post procedure as you heal and the pigment lightens. When pigment starts to fade on the area in which you received the cosmetic tattoo, it will fade there faster.
These small patches of discolored or pale skin are usually caused by past accidents, chicken pox or acne and do not absorb the pigments well. Therefore these areas will fade quicker than the rest.
You may have to come in more often for a touch up to address these issues! Although the pigment will show less, it is better than the space being white/empty because of scar tissue.
What are my options?
While we can not completely cover up scars, for those seeking improvement you must use the microblading + embroidery combination tattoo.
A cover up can not be achieved with just the microblading technique, which will make it looks more empty without the microblading + embroidery combo, which requires a light layer of shading underneath the hair-like strokes.
When it will fade it will fade faster because of scar tissue. Clients may come in more often for a touch up to address these issues. We have special rates for clients who return within 6 months for this reason for only a fraction of the price. We offer this for you because we want you to love your eyebrows and not feel like you’re putting money down the drain just to maintain your beautiful new brows!
It will be less pigmented than areas with no scar tissue, but it is better than having pale, white spots.
Will it give me scars?
No! Microblading is done on the most superficial outer layer of your skin.
HOWEVER, if you are prone to keloid scarring, there is a chance that you may experience scarring. Although we have never experienced this before, we have seen this in some clients from different studios.
We have plenty of clients who are prone to keloid scarring on their body. Just because you experience keloid scarring on your body doesn’t mean you will experience it on your face. We disclose that this is a possibility in your consent form however, as there is a chance that it may occur.
does it look like real hair?
Yes! Our highly skilled technician has mastered designing customized brows that follow your natural hair growth for the most natural and beautiful looking results. There are many varying factors however, and it depends on your skin type. Look above to see if you’re a good candidate.
If you do not meet these parameters then you may have less than optimal results. We will not necessarily deny you based off this reason if we both agree that in your case, it is still better than no eyebrows!
Please visit our gallery to see just how much of a difference microblading can make to one’s appearance!
Preparations
It is best to keep the eyebrows in its natural state as much as possible. If you usually wax or thread, refrain from doing so until after receiving Microblading and fully healing afterwards.
You must wait at least 3 months after any surgical procedures
You must wait at least 1 month after receiving your last laser removal treatment
You must wait at least 1 month after receiving UPPER face botox, or aesthetic treatments like PDO threadlifts, particularly near the forehead/eyebrow region, or anywhere that will alter your brow shape.
You must wait at least 2 months after receiving UPPER face filler/injectables, particularly near the forehead/eyebrow region.
We recommend getting injectables/botox AFTER your PMU service for optimal results. Please consult with your doctor/aesthetic provider if you are considering getting PMU AFTER your cosmetic treatments instead.
Stop using chemical treatments such as but not limited to AHA’s and retinoids at least 1 week before
No Alcohol 24 hours before procedure, but up to 1 week before
No caffeine on the day of procedure
Stop taking blood thinners (some vitamins, supplements, and aspirin) for at least 1 week prior - if not possible than you can keep taking them. You may bleed more than the average client which may result in your microblading fading quicker than others and the line quality may not be as “crispy” but slightly more blurred/smudged. However, these things can occur regardless of taking vitamins/supplements due to skin type, genetics, lifestyle, and other factors.
Please come in with a fresh, bare face as you will not be able to get water on the procedural area 24 hours post procedure. You can come in with makeup on, but we prefer a clean, bare face! No need to draw your eyebrows in ahead of time to show us as you will have to draw them in again during the consultation portion. (Please refer to our appointment process in the FAQ link below.)
aftercare
Your newly microbladed eyebrows may turn very dark the first 2-3 days and will gradually fade around the 4th-7th day. It takes on average 7-10 days to fully heal and look natural.
If you would like any touch-ups, concerning the shape, darkening of the color, or filling in sparse areas (naturally occurring or due to scar tissue), we can address them during the optional, complimentary, touch up visit. We cannot address any issues until after they heal for at least 7-10 days.
We recommend giving it a full month for final results, including after your optional touch up, if you choose to take advantage of this service. You must wait until they fully heal to see the final result!
Avoid getting water on the area for the first 24hrs following the procedure.
Once the 24hrs are over, only water is permitted and you should NOT use soap, scrub or exfoliate while washing your face for 1 Week.
Must wash with water after 24 hours to avoid infection including old ointment before applying new ointment
TIP: when taking a shower on the day of your procedure only, cover your eyebrows with a piece of saran wrap after applying provided ointment
For 1 week you must avoid on area of procedure: chemical products including but not limited to makeup, soap, skincare products, sunscreen, etc.
You must also avoid swimming, sauna/direct steaming, and excessive sweating during this period to prevent possible infections.
Avoid direct sun and hiking etc for 7-10 days. Walking around is ok but no extra curricular activities in prolonged sun.
Using a clean Q-tip, apply a thin layer of provided A&D ointment on the procedural area 2 times a day for one week. DO NOT apply with your fingers and DO NOT apply anything other than the provided ointment.
Do not forcefully peel/rub or disturb procedural area while healing. Scabbing and peeling is normal.
For longer lasting results: Avoid getting brightening products such as AHA’s, retinoids, hydroquinone, etc. on your eyebrows. This includes any kind of healing gel (Read product ingredients before using).
Contact your doctor if you notice any signs of infection. Please consult with your doctor/ health care provider/ dermatologist before any procedures if you have any underlying conditions. See who is not and Ideal candidate for more details.
No down time, although slight swelling and redness may occur depending on the person. However it will take 7-10 days to heal: depending on the person you may want to take time off if you are uncomfortable walking about with your unhealed brows. Most people resume normal activities with no problem!
MAINTENANCE +
LONGEVITY
Maintenance
It depends if the individual wants them to be freshened up or do not mind their brows gradually looking lighter for a more natural effect. Clients must understand that you need to maintain your eyebrows with microblading, wait for it completely fade away, or have laser removal.
There is one optional, complimentary, touch up offered within one month of the initial procedure (we recommend coming 2-3 weeks out for optimal results.) After the one month, depending on the client’s desire, they may schedule an appointment as they see fit. Please visit our Terms + Policy FAQ for more information on Complimentary Services.
*It is up to the client to make appointments and we are not responsible for reminders.
Longevity
It lasts about 6 months - 3 years depending on the individual’s skin type and lifestyle.
Most clients come within 1-2 years to maintain their eyebrows. Those with oily skin and more melanin tend to fade faster and may require more frequent touch ups compared to others.
Special rates for clients returning within
6 months: $250 both M+E and M
2 years: 20% DC(From current price)
Do not compare your results to others! Everyone has extremely unique skin and reacts differently. Just because your family member or friend had certain results, doesn’t mean you will and vice versa.
As you age, your skin chemistry changes as well and your results may change depending on many other outside factors, even if you have received semi-permanent cosmetic tattoos in the past. Just because you heal a certain way one time, doesn’t mean it’s going to be like that next time and vice versa. Unfortunately there is no way to discern this until after you get your cosmetic tattoo, but we do our best to tell you all the potential risks.
